Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 1, 2026

anaba ("anaba," "we," "us") is a place-journaling app for friends. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to the anaba iOS app and to anaba.app.

1. Information we collect

Account information

You sign in with Sign in with Apple. We receive your Apple-generated user identifier and, if you choose to share it, your name and an email address (which may be a private Apple relay address). You also choose a username and, optionally, an avatar image.

Content you create

Journal entries (text up to 500 characters, the visit month/year, and up to three photos per entry), saved places, and trips you create are stored so they can sync across your devices and be shown to your friends inside the app.

Friend graph

We store friend requests and connections you make so that entries and activity can be shown to the friends you've connected with, and to no one else.

Location

With your permission, anaba uses your device's coarse, on-device location only to center the map on your current area. We do not store a history of your location, and location is never used for advertising or tracking.

Place data

When you add a place, anaba queries the Google Places API to look up public information about that location (name, address, category, coordinates). These queries leave your device and are subject to Google's own privacy practices.

Device tokens

If you enable notifications, we store an Apple Push Notification service (APNs) device token so we can notify you about friend activity (e.g. a friend request or a new entry from a friend).

Reports and blocks

If you report a piece of content or a user, or block another user, we store that record so we can act on it and so blocked users can be kept out of your experience.

2. How we use information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your data for advertising or third-party tracking.

3. Who we share information with

Your journal entries, photos, and profile are visible only to the friends you connect with inside the app — not to the public.

4. Your choices and rights

5. Data retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Deleting your account removes your rows and stored files from our systems; residual copies may persist briefly in backups until they naturally roll off.

6. Children's privacy

anaba is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at support@anaba.app and we will delete it.

7. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards (encryption in transit, row-level access controls on our database) to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
